Dr. Erin Moore, DVM

Dr. Erin Moore joined the board of directors at Hog Heaven Rescue Farm, Inc. in 2007. She grew up in West Virginia with animals of all types. Always interested in how things worked, it seemed a natural choice to combine her interests in science and animals into the pursuit of a career in veterinary medicine. After completing her undergraduate degree from West Virginia University in Animal Science, she acquired her veterinary degree from the Ohio State University in 1986.

Dr. Moore practiced in the Washington, D.C. area for 14 years primarily as a relief veterinarian with small animals. In 2000, she moved to the Pittsburgh area where she has been involved in teaching as well as continuing her work as a relief veterinarian. Currently teaching large animal medicine at the Veterinary Technical Institute (formerly Median School), Dr. Moore accompanies the students through their large animal practicum at Hog Heaven Rescue Farm, Inc. This program introduces veterinary technician students to the issues relative to large animals such as horses, cows and pigs. Being able to conduct this education on-site at a working hoofed animal rescue further exposes students to some of the social issues entwined with livestock and pet animals, providing realistic and practical applications.

Never one to be idle, Dr. Moore is member of the following:

Dr. Moore brings an enthusiasm to Hog Heaven and donates her knowledge and expertise generously. She was instrumental in establishing a community cat neuter program and rescue operation for alpacas at Hog Heaven. Her involvement in the community neuter program has had a positive impact in promoting responsible pet ownership throughout Crawford County and the surrounding areas.

Wonderfully supported by her husband, Joe, they own two mules, three dogs, three cats, three goats, a few chickens and a lot of gold fish.
